Volunteering to help in one of our activities is a wonderful way to contribute to the Park

HERE ARE OUR VOLUNTEERING ACTIVITIES - click on a heading to see more information about the activity:

Discoverers run over 20 events for families in Richmond Park each year, supported by our current team of 20 volunteers. We focus on learning about all aspects of the Park including its history, flora and fauna, in a hands-on and fun way. Some events include arts and crafts workshops. Volunteers with Discoverers are required to apply for a Disclosure and Barring Service criminal record check. Read more on our Discoverers page: https://www.frp.org.uk/discoverers/.

There are a number of events taking place inside and outside the Park, where the Friends have a presence, and which are an important part of the Friends’ work. Volunteers support local fairs, events with our sponsors, sports and charity events to help raise our profile, educate the general public about Richmond Park and our activities to conserve and protect it, as well as to attract new members. Around three or four events take place each year, typically working collaboratively with other Friends' volunteer groups.

Do you know the Park well and would like to learn more? Why not join the team of volunteers at the Richmond Park Visitor Centre where you can impart your new and existing knowledge to visitors and help educate all users of the Park. We also run a small gift shop at the centre where we sell the popular Richmond Park Calendar and Christmas Cards, vine deer and many other interesting items. Walks are an important part of the Friends’ educational work and we would welcome more walk leaders. You do not need to be an expert in wildlife, conservation or history; training and sources are available. Qualities required for leading walks include an ability to lead a walk for up to two hours (about 3 miles), but one hour walks are an option and being confident in talking to people about the history of the Park, and/or the features of the Park, and/or nature subjects in the Park. Notes and sources of information are available from the current leaders and publications. No minimum number of walks per year, but three or more would be ideal. Understudying one of the leaders on one of the monthly walks, to see if it appeals, is recommended. Read more on our Guided Walks page: https://www.frp.org.uk/walks/.
