Hugging an Oak Tree
Measuring our Champion!

Note: Discoverers events are for families with school age children.

Sunday 19th May 2019  10:00 am – 12 noon.   PAST EVENT.

Meet the Giants of High Wood:  Six families spent a morning in High Wood, getting to know its magnificent ancient oaks.  We calculated their age  by measuring waistlines – using tapes, and much more enjoyable, by hugging them!  The walk was led by Janet Bostock who helped us understand what made these wonderful trees so special and important to the Park’s ecology.  Our walk through High Wood, was in the company of some of the oldest living things on our planet!

Richmond Park is a National Nature Reserve, and its ancient oak trees are its most famous and celebrated residents. Some, including the Giants, are hundreds of years old and were around in 1637 when the Park was created by Charles I.
