Sunday 23rd November was our yearly Fungi Morning in Two Storm Wood and what a treat it was!
I had been watching the weather forecast like a hawk eyeing its prey and what a relief when I checked one more time as I got up on Sunday morning:

It was magical to set up in the sunshine, under a crisp and clear blue sky. Then there were the fungi…Had we held this event in October, as we usually do, we would not have seen many: after such a dry period, there were very few fungi to be found. But, November was what we had decided, back in September!
Janet had got up early too, finding fungi to show everyone as she went around the park in the Friends of Richmond Park buggy. Sam and Sophie were all set and inspired to take the children through a little creative journey from paper fungi to clay ones and drawing colourful pictures from real and illustrated examples. The walk in the woods was fun and what a relief when one of our volunteers announced back at base: ‘they’ve found a fly agaric!’ Fabulous!
Here are a few photos which speak for themselves:

So glad Gerald the Jolly Owl enjoyed it too!
Thank you to all our volunteers who came along and made it all possible and to our Artists Sam Read and Sophie Balhetchet and of course, to our fungi expert Janet Bostock.
See you all again soon!
