The annual Visitor Information Centre (VIC) “thank you” lunch was generously hosted by Daniel Hearsum at Pembroke Lodge on Wednesday 21st November.

Daniel welcomed around 50 volunteers (and other guests) and thanked them for their hard work in running the VIC, echoed by FRP Chairman Ron Crompton and Park Manager Simon Richards.

Mary Davies, who has run the Centre for seven years, acted as compere and although she delighted everyone with profuse thanks for volunteers’ efforts and input, she saddened all in the Belvedere Room when she announced that she is to ‘retire’ from the position of VIC Manager early next year, although she’ll continue to work at the Centre. And more sad news in that Mary’s friend and loyal deputy Liz Hunt is also to retire from her role but, like Mary, will continue to help out at the Centre.

Mary and Liz will be sadly missed by many FRP members and visitors but hopefully others can step up and try to fill their shoes!

As well as talks by Daniel, Ron, Simon and Mary there was a fascinating presentation by Janet Bostock on the Park’s fungi.
