Since we had been reading stories all summer, like bookworms do, we thought we would hold a real WORMS Workshop to finish off our summer of activities in Richmond Park!

So, we brought in some trays of worms for children to have a good look, ask questions and find answers together.
Our giant model worm helped us understand which end is the head and which is the tail, reveal some basic biology and we wondered why worms seem elastic whereas snakes do not (snakes are vertebrates, they have a backbone) and we carried out some estimations about the number of worms in the soil under a one square meter area.

The biggest reveal of the day for many participants is that worms DO NOT REGROW if you cut them in half, they just die. They do not have the ability to regenerate a whole body. So let’s be kind to worms when we are in the garden or out and about.

There were also some arty activities all about worms. Worms really wonderful you know!
